Clubs and Organizations

Clubs and activities allow our students to discover their unique path and pursue passions beyond the classroom, while developing key leadership skills. There is something for everyone in our expansive list of clubs. We meet regularly and explore every interest, from quiz bowl, chess to community service. Some activities are invitational, like National Honor Society and honor societies in individual disciplines. Members of Honor Council and Student Government are elected by their peers.

Academic Quiz Bowl

The purpose of this club is to provide capable and interested students with an opportunity
to participate in local and state-wide academic competitions.

Annual/Yearbook Staff

Sponsor: Frances Dykes / Grades: 10-12 / Room: 127
The annual staff is responsible for taking pictures, writing features, and helping in the
development and production of the yearbook.

Board Brains

Sponsor: Ashley Garavelli / Grades: 6-8 / Room: 113
The purpose of this club is to study and play various board games and understand the
history and culture of these games.

Chess Club

Sponsor: Ann Campbell / Grades: 6-8 / Room: 114
The purpose of this club is to study and play the game of chess and understand the history
and culture of this game.

Middle School Classics Club

Sponsor: Beth Watts / Grades 6-8 / Room: 212
The Classics Club allows middle school students to learn more about the language,
culture, art, history, and mythology of the ancient Greeks and Romans. Students will
have the opportunity to take the National Mythology Exam in the spring. Enrollment in
Latin is not required.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

Sponsor: Allen Pavatte / Grades: 6-12 / Room: Cafeteria
FCA is a student-run Christian faith-based organization. Students and coaches meet to
study God’s word and to impact the world for Jesus Christ through testimony, outreach
programs, and community service.

French Club

Sponsor: Valerie Abraham / Grades: 8-12 / Room: 215
The purpose of this club is to explore and experience French culture and traditions.
Students will also socialize with other French students and practice speaking and writing
skills.

Geography Club

Sponsor: Marcia Smith / Grades: 6-8 / Room: 111
The purpose of this club is to study how people in other cultures live, what they eat, how
they celebrate, etc. Members of the club will study locations of these cultures and areas
throughout the world.

Habitat for Humanity

Sponsor: Rebecca Dew, Jennifer Gainey, Ashley Garavelli, Lauren Stratton / Grades: 10-12 / Room: 205
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFH seeks
to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent
shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat involves people of all backgrounds,
races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

High School Bible Club

Sponsors: Nathan Stamper, Sharon McDill / Grades: 9-12 / Room: 115
The purpose of this club is to experience Christian fellowship and to learn and grow
through the word of God. Members will also assist in the preparation and presentation of
special chapels for Christmas and Easter.

High School Praise Band

Sponsor: Amy Touchstone / Grades: 9-12 / Room: 201
This organization allows students to utilize their many talents in a contemporary music
setting while also training them to be dynamic Christian leaders. Incorporating vocals,
electric guitar and acoustic guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, horns and percussion, the
praise band leads worship during weekly chapel services.

Honor Society

Sponsor: Laurie Babb, Libbo Crosswhite (HS), Liz Haskins, Daireth Headley (MS) / Grades: 6-12/ Room: 125, 106 The purpose of this organization is to promote educational excellence. Students who meet eligibility requirements excel in the areas of academics, service, leadership, and character.

Hunting and Fishing

Sponsor: Kenny Williams (HS), Chad Lipscomb (MS) / Grades: 6-12 / Room: Gym
The purpose of this club is to promote lifetime activities outdoors, such as hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor pursuits. Information includes hunter education, processing and cooking wild game, and outdoor safety.

Image Club

Sponsor: Michelle Edwards / Grades: 6-9 / Room: 110
The purpose of this club is to give female students an opportunity to discuss relevant issues in their lives. Students will examine topics such as dating, fashion, health and wellness, etc.

Junior Classical League (Latin)

Sponsor: Beth Watts / Grades: 8-12 / Room: 212
The purpose of this club is to promote and expand knowledge of Roman and Greek traditions. Members will interact using Latin and participate in activities that stimulate cultural awareness.

Memory Club

Sponsor: Wren Gregory / Grades: 6-8 / Room: Library
The purpose of this club is to provide students an opportunity to document events throughout the school year though photos. Students will take pictures of student life around school (sports, class, clubs, etc.).

Middle School Bible Club

Mu Alpha Theta

Mu Alpha Theta is a national mathematics honor society for students who excel in math.
Students who meet the eligibility requirements will participate in math competitions, provide peer tutoring, and volunteer in service projects.

National Art Honor Society

Sponsor: Judith Crotty / Grades: 9-12 / Room: 116
The purpose of this club is to develop an interest in various forms of art. The club also provides assistance to any school groups in need of signs, posters, decorations, etc.

National French Honor Society

Sponsor: Valerie Abraham / Grades: 9-12 / Room: 215
The purpose of this Society is to recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language and Francophone literatures, to increase the knowledge and appreciation of Americans for the cultural contributions of the French-speaking world, and to stimulate and to encourage French and francophone cultural activities.

The purpose of this club is to provide students with insight into the various fields of Law and the number of careers which are available in this area. Various speakers will give students information about degree requirements, job duties and responsibilities, and general information concerning legal studies.

Pre-Med Club

The purpose of this club is to provide students with insight into the various fields of medicine and the number of careers which are available in this area. Various speakers will give students information about degree requirements, job duties and responsibilities, and general information concerning medical jobs.

Rotary Club

The purpose of this club is to offer service opportunities for our students. Students will serve with organizations such as Toys for Tots and Camp Barnabas.

Spanish Club

The purpose of this club is to promote interest in Spanish and stimulate cultural awareness. Students will practice speaking in Spanish and explore Spanish culture and traditions.

Sports Media Club

The purpose of this club is to promote interest in Sports Media and to explore the possible career options in this field. Students will learn how to assist the Athletic Department in all areas of sports media.

Student Council

Student Council is a representative body composed of students chosen by their classmates to organize social and extra-curricular activities and to participate in the government of the school.

Teenage Republicans

The purpose of this club is to allow students an opportunity to examine the workings of the political system on a local, state, and national level. Students participate in elections by helping with campaigns, working voting areas, etc.

Writer’s Club

The purpose of this club is to provide an outlet for interested students to improve their writing skills. Students will study various types of writing and participate in various poetry and writing contests.

YMCA Youth Legislature

Sponsors: Ann Campbell, Marcia Smith (MS) Brooke Jones, Tonya Reeves, Matt Walker (HS): 6-12 / Room 105 (MS), 205 (HS)
Youth Legislature is a program that allows students from across the state to participate in mock legislature. Students debate state issues, argue Supreme Court cases, and preside over committee sessions as officers.
